Choose the correct answer for the following items about the reading passage.

(1)

When early humans hunted and gathered food, they were not in control of their environment.  They could only interact with their surroundings as lower organisms did.  When humans learned to make fire, however, they became capable of altering their environment.  To provide themselves with fuel they stripped bark from trees, causing the trees to die.  Clearings were burned in forests to increase the growth of grass and to provide a greater grazing area for the wild animals that humans fed upon.  This development led to – farming and the domestication of animals.  Fire also provided the means for cooking plants which had previously been inedible.  Only when the process of meeting the basic need for food reached a certain level of sophistication was it possible for humans to follow other pursuits such as the founding of cities.

There never was a man on the moon. The astronauts were "astronauts" and the whole moon landing was faked in the Nevada desert. These sensational allegations surface in Dark Moon, a 2001 book by British authors David Percy and Mary Bennett which they say proves the Apollo missions were no more real than Star Trek. Ever since Apollo 11 made the first moon landing in 1969, conspiracy theorists have claimed the lunar flights were produced by Disney on Richard Nixon’s orders so he could claim the US had beaten the Soviets in the space race.

Dark Moon is largely based on the research of Bill Kaysing, a 73-year old American rocket scientist. NASA says Neil Armstrong planted America’s flag near the moon’s Sea of Tranquility. Kaysing and his British friends say he was in fact an actor on stage at Area 51, where they believe the landings were faked on a giant lunar set, like the one built so convincingly for the film Titanic.

"The astronauts would have been overwhelmed by the sight of trillions of stars, but not one picture has ever come back from the alleged trip to the moon showing the stars in all their magnificence, nor do any of the astronauts comment on them. It would be like going to Niagara Falls and only talking about the hamburger you ate."

According to Kaysing, it is not technically possible for men to walk on the moon without protection against radiation in the form of improbably thick sheets of lead. He says that eleven years before the Apollo expeditions to the Moon, NASA discovered, through a CIA spying operation, that Russian scientists had proved lunar astronauts would need lead suits 1m thick to avoid being killed. With such high surface temperatures, NASA concluded the spacemen would need to carry air-conditioning units larger than a London bus to stay cool within their lead coating.

(A) Why did Apollo Expeditions to the Moon Fail?
(B) Was Richard Nixon Competing with the Soviets in the Space Race?

(D) What Are the Fatal Radiation an Astronaut Can Experience on the Moon?

17.  According to this passage, the so called moon landing actually took place in
(A) The dark moon   (B) Area 51   (C) Sea of Tranquility   (D) Niagara Falls

18.  When did the U.S. know that astronauts need lead apparels to prevent them from being killed by

the space radiation?
(A) In 1958                     (B) In 1969
(C) In 2001                      (D) It is not mentioned in the article.

19.  What did Kaysing imply in this passage when he said, “It would be like going to Niagara Falls and

only talking about the hamburger you ate”?

(B)   The hamburger there is more spectacular than the famous Niagara Falls.
