Teasdale, Williams, and Segal offer this self-help program for improving mood and functioning through a mindfulness-based approach. Divided into two parts, the first part introduces the book to the reader in a conversational style and discusses the foundations of the approach. Part II lays out the program in eight chapters, with each week assigned a different focus. In sequence, the program covers breaking autopilot, realizing the difference between direct and indirect knowing, being mindful of the present, recognizing aversion, acceptance of the present, separating thoughts from notions of fact, practicing kindness, and solidifying goals and meaning. Each chapter contains prompts for guided reflections, list-making, and other exercises with space to write directly into the book.
